A Visual Presentation of the Gospels: A New Series in Mark Hempel’s Bible Class
Have you ever wanted to see the story of Jesus come to life exactly as it was written? Mark Hempel’s Bible Class is kicking off an exciting new series that combines stunning cinematography with the unedited, word-for-word text of Scripture.
What We’re Watching
This series features The Lumo Project, a critically acclaimed film series five years in the making. These groundbreaking films are the first-ever word-for-word adaptations of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, plus the Book of Acts—nothing added, nothing removed. Using the NIV translation, professional actors bring the Gospel narratives to life against the backdrop of a meticulously recreated first-century Palestine.
What makes these films so special? They were shot on location in Morocco, feature computer-generated reconstructions of ancient Jerusalem, and are informed by the latest theological, historical, and archaeological research. Even the casting reflects authenticity—Jesus is portrayed by British actor Selva Rasalingam, whose appearance reflects what scholars believe a first-century Galilean man actually looked like.
What We’ll Do
We’ll watch these beautiful films together and pause throughout for group discussion, exploring key moments in Jesus’ ministry. Pastor Leeland will offer his insights from a Lutheran perspective, helping us connect what we see to our faith and doctrine.
