Elevate Youth Group met for a fun night together at the church last Wednesday. We turned the activity room into a makeshift movie theater (you can’t stop us, Beryl!).
Before the movie, we ate a Bueller-themed dinner. Don’t get too excited; it was hot dogs. Then, we prepared our snacks for the movie. We made candy salad. Each youth brought their favorite gummy candies, introduced themselves, and added them to the salad. Once it was mixed, we enjoyed that and some Chicago-style caramel and cheese popcorn (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it—it’s delicious!).
After the movie, we discussed five of the main characters and talked about what character flaws caused them to do the things they do. We dove into what it means to be an influencer for Christ by looking at Matthew 5:13 and what Jesus meant by asking us to be salt and light. We discussed the importance of putting our selfish desires aside and looked at how our thoughts, words, and deeds should all reflect Christ. After that, we broke into small groups for a short discussion. After Bible study, the kids spent the rest of the night laughing, hanging out, and playing games.
