Celebrating LWML Sunday: Serving the Lord with Gladness
This Sunday, October 4, 2026, we celebrate LWML Sunday and give thanks for the faithful women of the LWML Daylilies, who have been quietly serving our congregation and community for decades.
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, now known as Lutheran Women in Mission, was founded in 1942 by Lutheran women who wanted to do mission work together. Their purpose is simple: to proclaim Christ, support missions locally and around the world, and honor God by serving others. Here at Epiphany, our chapter took the name “Daylilies” because they meet during the day.
And they keep busy! Each summer, the Daylilies collect school supplies that are packed in October and shipped across the U.S. and overseas through Lutheran World Relief. At Christmas, they assemble baking baskets for clients of Cypress Assistance Ministries, so families can enjoy baking together with their children. They visit our seniors and shut-ins, help with funeral dinners, host a soup luncheon for our teachers each February, and support a deaconess or seminary student twice a year.
Their mite boxes may be small, but they add up. Inspired by the widow who gave everything she had, LWML members across Texas will raise $250,000 in mission grants over the next two years, one coin at a time.
It’s not all work, either. The year kicks off each August with pizza and chicken dominoes, and there’s a Christmas luncheon to look forward to. As Linda Brown puts it, their motto is to “serve the Lord with gladness,” and that’s exactly what they do.

Join them! Any woman of Epiphany is welcome. As Linda says, the only requirement is “a willing worker with a kind heart.” The Daylilies meet the third Wednesday of most months at 10:00 a.m. in the church library. Contact Linda Brown to get on the list.
