Church Activities Urgent Needs

Your Gifts Matter

St. Paul teaches that “there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit… and to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1 Corinthians 12:4,7). Every Christian has God‑given abilities; some visible, some quiet, all essential. When you serve in the congregation, you are not simply filling a role; you are exercising the vocation God Himself has entrusted to you.

The Augsburg Confession reminds us that true worship is faith expressing itself in the works God has actually commanded, not to earn salvation, but because we are already His redeemed people. Luther writes in the Large Catechism that God “places us in our stations” so that through ordinary service, He Himself blesses others. Your gifts are part of that blessing.

Why We Serve

Scripture calls the church to a life of mutual care:

  • “Serve the Lord with gladness” (Psalm 100:2)
  • “Through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13)
  • “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Ephesians 2:10)

The Apology of the Augsburg Confession describes good works as the “fruits of faith”—the natural outflow of hearts renewed by the Gospel. Volunteering is not about impressing God; it is about living as His people, shaped by Christ’s humility: “Whoever would be great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26).

The Need Before Us

As our congregation continues to grow in ministry, we have several areas where your gifts can make a real impact:

  • Altar Guild – preparing the Lord’s Table with reverence
  • Children’s Ministry – supporting Sunday School and midweek programs
  • Education & Fellowship – creating a warm, welcoming environment
  • Outreach & Service Projects – extending Christ’s mercy to our community
  • Music & Worship Support – choir, instrumentalists, tech assistance
  • Property & Grounds – caring for the facilities God has entrusted to us
  • Elders – Ministering to the congregation and intercessory prayer.

Each of these roles is a concrete way to live out your vocation as a member of Christ’s body.

Join Us in This Work

Please prayerfully consider where your gifts may be put to use. If you feel a tug, a curiosity, or even a small nudge, that may be the Spirit opening a door. We would be glad to help you discern where you might serve joyfully and fruitfully.

Together, let us echo the Small Catechism’s vision that we “serve and obey Him” not only in worship, but in the shared life of His church.

In Christ,

Matt Thornton
