Epiphany Lutheran Church has something new to tune in to. Michael Copp, Vicar and Lutheran school teacher here at Epiphany, has launched a brand-new podcast called “Different Pews, Same Promise,” and the inaugural episode is available now on YouTube.

The heart of the podcast is right there in the title. Each person who will be a regular part of the show came to the Lutheran Church by a completely different road, and yet they all share the same promise in Christ. Michael will be joined over time by friends Channing Wood, Ruben Solano, and Derek Della Foss, with plans to bring in a wide variety of guests for interviews and conversations as the show grows.

The first episode is a deeply personal one. Michael takes listeners through his own winding path to the Lutheran faith, from a childhood without much churchgoing, to being baptized at 18 in a non-denominational church, to eventually being confirmed in a small Lutheran congregation in Nebraska after being encouraged by friends at Concordia University.

Along the way he shares stories of teaching, profound loss, renewal, and the unexpected turns that can only, in hindsight, be seen as God’s hand at work. He also previews some exciting things coming up at Epiphany, including a new Sunday school class and an adult course called “Strength for the Journey” that weaves together physical fitness, the catechism, and Bible study.

Michael closes the episode with a challenge: Find the person in the pew next to you, learn their name, and pray for them.

It is a fitting send-off for a podcast all about the connections Christ builds between us, even when we have each taken very different paths to get there. We encourage everyone in our congregation to give it a listen.
