First grade students are diving into the animal world through both fiction and nonfiction reading. During writing time, each student has chosen an animal to research and is creating an informational article to teach others what they have learned.

Young writers are exploring topics such as animal life cycles, habitats, food, and other fun facts. Along the way, they are learning how titles and headings help organize information, as well as how text and images work together to support a reader’s understanding.

Next week, students hope to turn their learning into posters that will help them share their animal discoveries with others. We are excited to see these curious learners engage with the world around them and encourage one another as writers and researchers.
