You read that right: pericope, not periscope. It’s pronounced puh-RICK-uh-pee, and it comes from a Greek word meaning “a section cut out.” A pericope is a set passage of Scripture appointed to be read on a particular day. In other words, the very readings you hear each Sunday in worship.
